Bingley Bijou murder inquiry: James Etherington’s uncle speaks

A MURDER inquiry is under way today as tributes to a “proper Bingley lad” continue to flood in.

James Etherington, 24, from Bingley, died on Tuesday afternoon from injuries sustained outside Bijou Cocktail Bar and Nightclub, in Chapel Lane, Bingley, on November 25.

He was taken to hospital with head injuries but died ten days later. Following his death, police started a murder enquiry.

Yesterday, his uncle David Etherington told the Telegraph & Argus of the family’s devastation.

He said “He was an absolute lad’s lad. He cared about his family, his friends, his community and would do anything for anyone.

“He was a sporty guy and outside of sport he was a proper Bingley lad, there wasn’t a pub or a cafĂ© or a shop in the town he could go in without seeing someone he knew.

“Everyone in the family is devastated, we are still in shock.

“We cannot thank Leeds General Infirmary enough for what they did, the staff were all amazing.”

Scott Rankin, one of Mr Etherington’s closest friends, attended the nightclub yesterday to pay his respects along with many of his friends.

He said: “James was a fun loving guy, he could put a smile on anyone’s face.
